Industry Careers

You have the passion, we have the training, and the industry is growing! According to the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) and Bureau of Labor Statistics, salon and spa industry jobs will increase 19% between 2020-2030. Skin-care specialist positions will see an increase of 29%, manicurist and pedicurist positions 33%, and hairstylist, hairdresser, and cosmetologist positions will see an increase of 19% during this time. Most industry-related careers are projected to grow stronger than the overall economy.

LICENSED COSMETOLOGIST

Salon Owner: The beauty industry is a unique and growing industry with many salon ownership opportunities. A positive attitude, savvy business skills, excellent customer service and an entrepreneurial spirit can lead to success in this venture.

Salon Manager: Those with an entrepreneurial spirit and a minimum of three-year industry experience can take their license a step forward and become salon managers. Salon Managers are responsible for the efficient running and profitability of the salon, assisting others in developing their skills, and high customer service knowledge.

Hairstylist: Also known as hairdressers, hairstylists offer a wide range of hair services, such as shampooing, cutting, coloring, and styling. Experts in their craft, they often advise clients on how to care for their hair at home to maintain the “fresh from the salon look.”

Haircolorist: Visionaries and skillful in the art of color, hair colorists can give life to an old look and give clients a fresh, youthful change.

Educator: Licensed cosmetologists with a minimum of six-month salon experience can advance their career in the education field. Professionals need to complete a 500-hour student teaching program to teach in New Jersey.

Barbers: Barbers cut, trim, shampoo, and style hair. They also may fit hairpieces and offer facial shaving.

Image Consultant: Creative and fashion minded visionaries, image consultants provide a fresh perspective to update any look and help clients take a step forward into their new style.

Platform Artist: Platform artists are skilled cosmetologists who travel, educate and train other industry professionals.

Manufacturer’s Representative: Love a makeup or hair care line? Why not work for the manufacturer and introduce, promote, sell or educate others on those products.

Freelance Artist for film, theatre, fashion, or print: Are you passionate about your skills but want to work for yourself? Freelance artists are sought in a variety of industries.

Manicurist/Nail Artist/Pedicurist: From the classic French manicure to modern and eclectic designs, talented professionals create beautiful works of art on clients’ nails.

LICENSED AESTHETICIAN

Facial Skin Care Specialist: Skincare specialists cleanse and beautify the face and body to enhance a person’s appearance.

Make-up Artist in Spa/Salon: Talented professionals use makeup application to enhance and transform the appearance of their clients.

Spa Therapist: Professionals at providing a variety of therapeutic skin and body treatments to help renew, refresh and revitalize their clients.

Body Treatment Specialist: Specialists treat their clients to an array of body soothing, replenishing and rejuvenating treatments.

Temporary Hair Removal Technician: Technicians safely remove unwanted hair giving client’s smooth skin.

Dermatologist Office Aesthetician: Specializing in facial skin care, aestheticians often work closely with dermatologists. They provide a variety of services, procedures, products, and consultations to help improve and maintain the appearance of the patient’s skin.

Plastic Surgeon Office Aesthetician: Specializing in facial skin care, aestheticians often work as medical aestheticians in plastic surgery offices.

Freelance Make-up Artist: Self employed artists enhance the appearance of their clients with expert make up applications.
